Who: Laura Tanner
Agency name: LT Support
Years in Recruitment: 21 (& counting!)
Market focus: Education & social care
Established: 2020
LT Support – this education & social care recruitment startup recently celebrated their first year of trading, a euphoric & fantastic landmark for a recruitment agency that has worked so diligently & so hard during the first 12 months of trading to be where they are ‘today’.
Heck – you might even remember we sat down with Laura at the start of her journey? If you missed it, be sure to check it out: here.
Established in July 2020, Laura Tanner ‘took the leap’ & started her own recruitment agency after 20 years in the industry; having worked for an array of education & social care recruitment agencies over that time, from building branches, opening offices & managing teams, it finally felt like the ‘right time’ for Laura to take her step into starting & running her own recruitment agency. & what a year it has been for her.
Now the Isotope team have been so fortunate over the years to work with so many agencies from within both the education & health/social care market, it’s a market we know very well & a market we feel very confident in working with agencies within. Despite that, you can never really ‘know’ how an agency is going to fare because, after all, each journey is so varied, so different, so unique. Having said that, we knew Laura. We knew what a diligent & conscientious recruiter she was & we knew that she was ready to run her own agency (which was why it was such a no-brainer when we got the opportunity to work with her & build LT Support together).
& what a journey it has been so far. As we all sit here today & reflect together on the recruitment startup journey of LT Support so many ‘things’ come to mind. From seeing Laura generate GP just a month or so into her journey & seeing her focus so intently on the foundations of the business – talking with the Isotope team to ensure that the compliance processes were correct, chatting ideas & concepts through with the creative team to ensure the brand was being driven in the right direction & talking with the Isotope accounts to ensure the VAT-man & all their motley crew were accounted for at every turn; all on the backdrop of rising GP levels.
Building a recruitment startup agency is not an overnight sensation; you don’t get instant gratification for what you do & the hard work you put into things. In our eyes as the founder of your recruitment agency, your objective in your first year of trading is to ensure you have rigid foundations in place, a value proposition that is attractive & applicable for the market you are in &, as cliché as we know it may sound, a genuine enjoyment for both what you do & the process you are experiencing.
In short – in the first 12 months of LT Support, Laura has achieved all three.
So, what’s next for LT Support?
Well with the support of the Isotope team, whether that’s from an accounting, legal, creative or business perspective – we know that Laura will achieve the ambitious (but very attainable) goals she has for her second year of trading.
Why are we so confident? Well, it’s simple. We know that with the right mindset (something Laura has by the bucket load) & the right support behind a startup (something the Isotope team are exceptionally happy & exceptionally capable to provide), the journey need not be riddled with pitfalls & caveats that ultimate stagnant the growth. Will the weekly GP for LT Support continue to grow? Will new employees come into the business? Will LT Support (& sub-brands like LT Partners) continue to add undeniable value to their candidates & clients (a goal & objective of Laura’s from the very get-go)?
The answer is yes. & we can’t wait for what the next 12 months has in store.
& what about you, the reader?
Well perhaps you’re reading this today having gently toyed with the idea of starting your own recruitment agency for some time. Perhaps you were interested in understanding a little bit more about the journeys of some of the recruitment startups that Isotope support, with the hope that you might see similarities in what they’ve done & what you’re looking to achieve. If like Laura, you’re an education recruitment consultant perhaps the best place to start would be here – with our education recruitment startup guide.
& having poured over the details, perhaps it might feel like the right time to pick up the ‘phone & have a chat with one of the Isotope team about how we can help you start & run your own recruitment agency in whatever sector you might currently enjoy success within.
