Like many I “fell” into Recruitment just over 19 years ago as a Branch Administrator for industrial recruitment. At 20, I began my first full Recruitment Consultant role in Social Care for Blue Arrow. After a couple of years’ of working with Residential Homes I then moved into Medical recruitment supplying Biomedical Scientists and Cardiac Technicians within the NHS. In 2007, I was approached by friendsreunitedjobs.co.uk to help agencies advertise their roles online. This led to a couple of years of online recruitment within Business Development, helping companies use tools that were less known back then (Boolean searches!) In 2010 I returned to Social Care Recruitment supporting Local Authorities with Social Work Assistants and Family Support Workers for Randstad Care, then in 2011 I was approached to set up the Social Care Division for a new company, Tempest Resourcing. Working with charities, local authorities and residential schools I then transitioned to SEN recruitment for London and the Home Counties, supplying Teachers and TAs and setting up the Secondary Department for the company. Becoming known for setting up and building divisions, by 2015 I was heading up three divisions at a multi-disciplinary recruitment agency for Education, Care and Personnel. In 2016 I started a brand-new Education arm for the Urban Recruitment Group, Urban Learning before being approached to run the Regional Office for TimePlan Education in 2017 where I ultimately ran two regions. This eventually led to my starting LT Support.
I suppose I’ve thought about it for a number of years. When I joined Tempest Resourcing, I helped to build the company up implementing procedures and policies, developing staff and taking an interest in the whole business process. It was then that I knew I had the understanding of how a business worked.
I guess the true answer is the pandemic. Like many I was furloughed from my role. Having worked full time for the last 20 years it didn’t sit well with me not being “in the trenches” with my team and I started thinking more about what I would do and why I first took a role in recruitment all those years ago. Having run divisions and companies for other people for years I decided there would never be better time to introduce a new company to the market then right now when we need to see the return of how recruitment used to be – when it was about helping people find jobs and, for me, vulnerable children and adults receiving the support they need especially with the current circumstances.
Timing, Support and a desire to provide the recruitment service I always try to but sometimes gets diluted down through KPIs and Targets incorporated as sales tools as opposed to consultancy.
LT Support was created to provide recruitment solutions within education and social care. Since my early days as a Recruitment Consultant, I have specialised in working with vulnerable end-users, children and adults and I want to continue to provide Long Term Support and Permanent recruitment solutions to Schools, Residential and Care establishments. LT Support provides recruitment across a vast range of roles as we want to help with whatever requirements our clients have.
A community of like-minded individuals working from a main office with the ability to work remotely to provide local recruitment solutions. Branching out to provide training and coaching options to workers and clients as well as giving back to the community working with young people to develop their CVs, learn interview skills and more.
Choosing to start a recruitment business is one thing, having the tools all in place is another. I could have taken on all aspects myself which would have diluted the speed to market or increased my costs by employing external sources for creative design, accounts, HR and more, but by working with Isotope I get that all in one place. They have the experience and know how to help LT Support grow and as an added bonus are a sounding board when you need them.
The way they have interpreted my needs and vision. From brand guidelines to the finished result of my website, to anticipating all the compliance forms I will need at some point they have been able to anticipate and work with me to build the brand in a timely manner.
You will know if it’s right for you. Starting your own agency isn’t just about the brand it’s about the development and effort you put in to create your own company. From building a database, choosing a CRM, putting processes in place and taking your business to market. If you are confident in all this then surround yourself with a good support network of friends and family who support you and then with the help of a launch & support service (Isotope) take that first step and have lots of conversations to ensure you are building the company you want to build.
