JR Veterinary – where do you start? This veterinary recruitment startup recently celebrated their first year of trading & what a fantastic journey they have been on so far. From conversations around the ambitions, goals & objectives of ‘JR’, to seeing the business go from strength to strength as each month has passed, it’s been a privilege to be part of that journey.

Established in the middle of 2020, Janko Salzwedel ‘took the leap’ & started her own recruitment agency after years of toying with the idea. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to know Janko (or Janks to her friends) will know that the passion, focus & drive she has for the veterinary industry meant that it was only a matter of time before she started her own agency.
Her objectives have evolved over the years; back in the middle of 2020, as the business was in its real infancy the objective was stability. She wanted to create a business generating steady & consistent GP levels with clients & candidates that understood the friendly, consultative & honest JR approach.
As a result of her persistent, success followed & after around 5-6 months of trading the conversations between Janks & Isotope changed; they evolved from conversations around just simply ‘trading through’ the opening months to how to grow, develop & build upon a foundation that had been so diligently built by Janks.
It’s a journey that the Isotope team have been so fortunate to have been a part of so many times over the years; these landmarks within recruitment startup journeys are so enjoyable to see & so rewarding to be a part of. & for Janks, growth was on the horizon.
Her objective was clear; to hire talent into JR & develop the offering & service her clients & candidates had already come to know & love from JR. Over the last year (or so) Janks has done just that. Hiring into her startup, she now proudly manages a team of 4 with another new hire due to join the team later this month (which would take the agency up to 5 superstars by the end of October 2021!).
Building a recruitment startup within the veterinary industry is no easy feat. Anyone within the fantastic industry will know that it takes time to build a presence in a market that is a tough nut to crack so in short – the first 12 months of trading for JR Veterinary have been a roaring success.
So, what’s next for JR Vets?
With the undiluted support of the Isotope team, which is only dwarfed by Janks’ undiluted passion for the agency she is creating, we know that growth will continue to be at the forefront of every conversation we have with Janks & her growing team of recruiters.
& that growth is just in relation to GP. The reality is, when running & building your own recruitment agency, GP levels are important (of course they are) but they’re never the main driver for our ambitious & passionate clients. They certainly aren’t for Janks. Janks wants more than just economic growth, the growth of JR will be in all areas; from tech to employee wellbeing & everything in between, the next 12 months is an opportunity for Isotope – as genuine partners & raving fans of JR – to ensure that we provide the right support, in the right way, & in the right amounts to help JR Veterinary achieve what they’re so clearly focused on in the next 12 months (& beyond).
