Investment.

What do you think of when you hear the term Investment?

Heck, what do you feel when you hear the term Investment?

Cold, harsh, faceless entities? Heartless organisations, focussed solely on ROI, % splits & non-negotiable “buybacks”? Transactional businesses that are driven by cash & cash only.

It’s funny how words become synonymous with certain feelings isn’t it?

It’s only when you take a step back, do you become aware that perhaps there’s a better, more suitable way.

Over the years of being fortunate enough to work with motivated recruiters looking to start their own Recruitment Agencies, we quickly realised how Recruitment Investment was really just a feeling. Making the right investments, was a feeling. A feeling honed & sharpened over years & years of working in the Recruitment market & knowing that while logic & rational need to play a role in making the right investment decisions, when you distil it down – it must feel right.

&, if you’re a Recruiter keen to secure the right investment, the right support & the right tools for your Recruitment Business – our advice would be the same.

Securing the right investment for your business is a feeling. &, at the end of the day, whatever route you go down to help in assisting you to launch & support you in your own Recruitment business, it needs to feel right for you.

OK.

So it’s all well & good to know that intellectually, but how do you apply that when looking at the 101 ways in which you can start your own Recruitment Business?

Firstly you have to understand what you want from your Recruitment Business; it’s corny but it’s true, you really do need to understand why you want this. With that understanding, you’ll be able to look at the various options out there & see very quickly which would suit your ambitions & which might just fall outside what you are looking for.

We could talk for hours about all the fantastic elements around what really does motivate a recruiter to start their own agency – in fact we’ve spoken about it here, here & here. So, it’s safe to say, we think it’s important to think about.

Once you understand what type of business you are hoping to create, you will then need to ask yourself what type of support you feel is going to really help you.

For some Recruiters the right investment could be in the form of some “hard cash”; they know how to run a business, they’ve done it before & are confident they can do it again. Where they are seeking external support is in the form of “hard cash” to hire fast & grow aggressively. They know this will come at a cost – usually in the form relinquishing some of the equity of their agency – but they feel it’s worth it to secure the “hard cash” they require.

For other Recruiters they might feel more comfortable with more of a tools-driven support platform; they know how to recruit, how to build a team & feel secure in dealing with the day-to-day challenges that will crop up in their own agency but, in all honesty, they need to tools to do what they love to do. This might be in the form of job board access, CRM provisions, accounting support, legal templates – whatever “it” might be, they feel that with the tools, they’ll succeed.

& finally, you have the Recruiters who would value the hard-cash, the tools coupled with the right holistic support to help them create the business they desire. These Recruitment Consultants see the value in having the right tools in place for their agency but they also appreciate & would value to work with people that are there to help, at every turn, in every situation, in every instance to help them navigate through running their own business.

OK – so what now?

For us, Isotope, we feel it’s right to appreciate that securing the right investment for you & your new business is personal.

It has to feel right.

It can’t just “do the job”; it needs to fill you with excitement, intrigue & passion for what you are about to do. The right investment for your business is meant to add value to your business from the outset & throughout – rather than just “tick a box”.

We would encourage you to find a business to support & work with you that, well… excites you. Do you agree?
